Linguist Compensation

  • Spanish $20-$25/hour

  • Other Languages $22-$30/hour

  • American Sign Language $35-$42/hour

Qualifications

  • Experienced and certified in one or more of the following professional domains:

    National or state educator certification; Classroom paraprofessional with associates degree; Degree in social work; or active members of the American Translators Association (ATA).

    A certificate from a recognized interpreting training program that includes the fundamentals of interpreting and Code of Ethics, a plus. Training and ongoing professional development provided for all team members.

  • Advanced proficiency in English and the target language, with the ability to render the message from the source language to the target language accurately and completely, conveying the content and spirit of the original message, and taking into consideration its cultural context.

  • Ability to speak with no grammatical errors present in spoken word.

  • Knowledge of education terminology and jargon. Familiarity with terminology frequently used in IEP meetings, 504 meetings, ELL conferences and parent/teacher conferences. Candidates will be tested on their interpreter and translation skills of this specialized terminology before being hired.

  • Ability to work from home independently, managing multiple priorities in order to meet deadlines. Ability to keep commitments and communicate scheduling conflicts in a timely manner.

  • Knowledge and willingness to abide by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for the profession. Strict compliance with FERPA and HIPPA. and observance of mandatory reporter laws.

  • Work as needed, as a 1099 employee (independent contractor) with a maximum of 19 hours per week. Communicate your schedule and use the interpreter manager app to manage your availability.
